A few years ago, the Giving Tree set up shop in my
neighborhood. They brightened up my neighborhood by filling a
vacant building and painting its brick wall in a universally
uplifting way. Since then, the organization has grown by leaps
and bounds throughout Tucson to provide such services as hot
meals, shelter, vocational rehabilitation, handyman services, etc.
I am pleased to have had the chance to talk with them and learn
more about how their programs benefit homeless and
disadvantaged children and adults.

Update, 7/20/10
The Giving Tree continues to amaze me on how active they are in the community and in
how they continue to give good clothing, shelter, and more to those who would
otherwise not receive it from the food bank or other services. As far as I am concerned,
other organizations such as the Community Food Bank and the Primavera Foundation
should be taking notes on how the Giving Tree gets results were others fail. One
example is that they give food to many to whom the Food Bank would not because of
over-regulation at the Food Bank. Often, if you are from the ranks of the working poor,
your income would be too high to get assistance from the Food Bank. You would have
to quit your job and then wait for a year to qualify. We have more shows coming soon
concerning the Giving Tree, so stay tuned.
